About This Tournament
VFI's national beach volleyball championship for open and junior categories. Beach volleyball became an Olympic sport in 1996 and is growing rapidly in India. This championship is the primary pathway to the Indian beach volleyball national team for FIVB Beach Pro Tour and Asian Games.

The Ranking Circuit
Beach volleyball is a completely separate circuit from indoor volleyball under VFI. The beach ladder: state-level beach tournaments (often in coastal states) → VFI Beach Volleyball National Championship → India national beach team selection. FIVB ranks beach volleyball pairs (teams of exactly 2 players), not individuals — so finding and developing a stable partnership is as critical as individual skill development. From the national team, India's pairs compete at FIVB Beach Pro Tour Futures (entry level) → FIVB Beach Pro Tour (main circuit). Beach volleyball is one of the few Olympic disciplines where Indian teams can realistically build FIVB world ranking relatively quickly, given the smaller global player pool compared to indoor volleyball. Beach volleyball requires specialised training on sand — not all indoor volleyball clubs offer this — so finding a dedicated beach volleyball training centre is the essential first step.
