This scheme provides in-house scientific sports training facilities to talented athletes in their own States. It aims to groom grassroots-level athletes in discipline-appropriate age groups. The scheme is jointly implemented by the Central and State Governments.

Top 8 in a Sub-Junior (including Cadet) or Junior National Championship run by a recognised National Sports Federation, or top 6 in an Inter-University or School Games Federation championship.

Good to know

Total sanctioned strength of athletes in STCs is 4824 (3846 Residential, 978 Non-Residential).
There are 69 STC Centers in the country with a total strength of 4556 athletes (2746 Boys & 1810 Girls).
Relaxation for lower and upper age limits, and induction, can be granted in exceptional cases based on outstanding performance and specific sport nature, with DG, SAI approval.
