The All India Chess Federation (AICF) is the national governing body for chess in India, affiliated to FIDE, the world chess federation. AICF organises the National Chess Championship, the National Junior Championship (Under-19) and the age-category national events, assigns national ratings, manages player registration, and selects India's teams for international events including the Chess Olympiad and the Asian Games. A player registers with their state chess association first; that registration flows up to AICF.
AICF national ratings are separate from FIDE international ratings — most juniors earn an AICF rating first.
Registration is through your state chess association, not directly with AICF.
AICF registration is required to enter any rated tournament in India.
AICF awards the National Master (NM) title at 2000 national rating.
