Age is determined as of January 1st of the calendar year in which the tournament is held. A player who turns 14 at any point during 2025 competes in the U-14 category for the full year 2025.
| Category | Max Age | Genders | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under-10 | Under 10 | BoysGirls | Entry-level category. Some state associations run their own U-10 circuits feeding into AITA events. |
| Under-12 | Under 12 | BoysGirls | First category with AITA national ranking points. Players must hold valid AITA registration. |
| Under-14 | Under 14 | BoysGirls | National Championships held annually. Top performers qualify for ITF Junior Grade 5 events. |
| Under-16 | Under 16 | BoysGirls | Pathway to Davis Cup / Billie Jean King Cup Junior teams. ITF Grade 3–5 events open. |
| Under-18 | Under 18 | BoysGirls | Highest junior category. Top-ranked players qualify for ITF Grade 1–2 events and senior wildcards. |
| Open | No limit | MenWomen | Senior category. ITF World Tennis Tour events (M15/W15–M25/W25) require ITF player ID in addition to AITA registration. |
Players must first register with their State Tennis Association. The state association then affiliates the player with AITA. Without a valid AITA number, the player cannot be entered into the official draw by the tournament organiser. Registration typically takes 2–4 weeks. Entry fees range from ₹500–₹2,000 per tournament depending on category and level. There is no wildcard provision for unregistered players at national-level events.
